Dar Hamad: A Fine Kuwaiti Restaurant

You cannot visit Kuwait without having a meal at Dar Hamad; that statement is evident in 2016 on my last visit to Kuwait and reconfirmed while having lunch this week. Dar Hamad is Kuwait’s excellent dining restaurant in a casual ambiance serving a local gourmet cuisine yet uncomplicated and straightforward.  It’s all about a fine service, great food and attention to details under the roof of Dar Hamad’s beautiful residence. Feel at home and enjoy delicious food.

Enjoying a breakfast tray for the first time, I was introduced to Dar Hamad in 2016 where food and service grabbed my attention. Passing through Kuwait for a 48 hours meeting, a lunch Escape at my favorite local restaurant was a must.

Inside this impressive building and spread over two floors, the restaurant occupies the main area facing an open kitchen. Up on the first floor are the private corners not open to everyone but to a handful of VIPs.

Marble tables, relaxing chairs, wide sofas and a set of golden plates cutlery, the setup of Dar Hamad is artistic yet stylish and classy. The plates are decorated with handwritten riddles; colorful paintings enchant the walls, special chandeliers and traditional drawings, many details for you to feel transported.

Now for the food; traditional food inspired by the cuisines of Lebanon and the Gulf, Dar Hamad is consulted by a Michelin starred chef who puts all her effort to perfect every dish; even rice feels and tastes like magic.

I adored the food! Dulma vine leaves stuffed with carrots and cooked rice. Yellow colored Kebbeh stuffed with juicy chicken. Kebbeh with minced meat. The famous yogurt salad. The unique selection of hot dishes served in metal marmites. Unconventional Tabbouleh with crushed wheat.

Hot plates are even better than the starters: at Dar Hamad, they have a particular way of cooking rice making it smooth and light without being chewy or having an oily flavor. The lamb meat is so tender it melts under the teeth like butter. The lentils as well as the vegetable stew were both memorable as well.

I love it here! I love the food and service, the story behind this magnificent concept, the decor and menu choices. It’s a must experience when visiting Kuwait. Thank you, Elie, for the tour and attention.
