La Mere Catherine, located a couple of meters away from the famous Montmartre church and monument overlooking Paris, is one of those typical touristic restaurants. What I mean, is that no effort is needed to improve or make things better as its location alone guarantees the place is fully booked on a daily basis.

Founded in 1793, more than two centuries ago, La Mere Catherine should be perfect with all the experience they should have acquired over the years. We enjoyed the weather, and the painters surrounding the terrace, the tourists taking pictures and all the wonderful ambiance. I can't say the same for the food. A typical tourist's food as they call it, less than average, served very quickly to make sure the tables make many turnovers as possible a day.

We ordered an oily salmon plate, a very sour salad, an average plate of snails, a hard as a rock and burned piece of meat with tasteless french fries. Sorry for being that blunt, but I was expecting much more. The marketing campaign, flyers and brochures are promising since its THE place from the 18th century but unfortunately nothing extraordinary happened.

I would recommend La Mere Catherine for a glass of beer or so, while really living the artistic side of Paris and watching the countless number of passing tourists.
