NoMad Hotel, located on the corner of 28th and Broadway, just north of Madison Square Park is one of New York's finest. Their restaurant is comprised of a series of rooms surrounding a glass-enclosed atrium and features a refined yet approachable menu with a wine program that celebrates the great wine growing regions of the world and innovative, classically-focused cocktails. They say, NoMad's restaurant serves the best Hamburger...

The NoMad Bar radiates the conviviality and warmth of a classic New York City tavern. The casual menu, which draws inspiration from traditional pub fare, is rooted in the style and foundation of The NoMad and Eleven Madison Park. Here, for example, the NoMad's famed chicken for two is re-introduced as a chicken pot pie, replete with black truffles and foie gras.

Award-winning Bar Director Leo Robitschek has created a beverage program that celebrates classically-focused cocktails, while delving into two new arenas: festive, large-format drinks and a selection of reserve cocktails crafted with rare spirits. An extensive selection of both approachable and sought-after wines and beers are available as well.

Dim and dark, taking photos was not easy.

Here's a square space that hosts the restaurant under a high ceiling centered between two cozier dining spaces. Walk through and you'll reach a bar and a bit further you'll find a library that's no complete yet.

There's also another bar down the hall spread on two levels where different kind of music is played and the NoMad bar menu is proposed.

English style wooden decor, red carpets, rugged glass and mirrors, yellow dimmed lights, dark wood, green leather, chandeliers and mosaic flooring. In here expect to hear some noise!

The menu includes a minimal choice of food, the burgers, sweets and lots of drinks. Scallops, asparagus, Swiss cheese, three tartar, lobster roll, three burgers and four desserts. They say that the dry aged beef burger with cheddar, onions and special sauce is not to be missed.

We ordered the Bay Scallops, French fries, the Lobster Roll, Hot dog and their beef burger.

My drink: Brooklyn brewery (Le Poulet). Belgian-inspired brown ale that has been crafted by Garrett Oliver of Brooklyn brewery. A full bodied dark beer with an enjoyable bitter after note, a fruity finish, a creamy smoothness going a guaranteed pleasure. I fell in love with it.

Details to look out for:

  • Forks and spoons are presented in a wooden box to every customer to pick his.
  • Plates are small, especially made for sharing.
  • Drinks are excellent. They do have some good bartenders.

Dinner is served:

  • Scallops with yuzu sauce and pistachio. Six shells served on a bed of ice embracing diced scallops mixed in their intense lemony yuzu sauce and crushed pistachio. Tender scallops, intense sauce and lovely crunchy pistachios.
  • The burger... Indeed! One of be best I've ever had. It's small in size, a super thick piece of meat as pure as it looks, aged in style, with a red juicy heart served in a premium brioche bun, caramelized and smooth onions, and a layer of cheese. Pure enjoyment.
  • French fries are also unique. Imagine thinly cut fries as a main dish served with dried salted herbs and two sauces: ketchup and pommery mayonnaise. Light crunch and tender heart, they are addictive!
  • The lobster roll is revisited their way. A rectangular shaped brioche buttered and topped with a lobster mix. It's a good sandwich but I have definately had better.
  • A different and unique hotdog served with the same brioche bun, wrapped with bacon. The smell of black truffles... Delicious. It's like no hotdog you've had before. It's not too easy to eat but enjoyable to the last bite - moist bread, a thick piece of hotdog, and an intense taste.

Really bravo. Good food is served in a pub attitude way...

And then came desserts. Dream desserts:

  • Ice cream covered with chocolate crunch, a hard ice cream with a crumble of salted chocolate. I never had anything like this in my life.
  • The cheese cake, served on a wooden plate is about a glass jar of cheese cake and strawberries on top and the light airy biscuits on the side. Oh my goodness! I whistled from joy.
  • A candy bar, can you imagine? Yes a candy bar as it is, dark chocolate embracing a molten heart of caramel. What a chocolate bar! I took the rest back home with me.

Surely recommended but expect to live a noisy experience. I loved the food and enjoyed the service... I'll recommend it to my friends and come back again the next time I am in New York.
