Home Sweet Home: Enjoy Breakfast in Mar Mikhael

It’s home away from home, and it’s located in the heart of Mar Mikhael. Open the door to where the heart is, let yourself go to the soothing music and fresh aromas of food and coffee. A village home in the heart of Beirut, decorated with style makes you feel the nostalgia of your childhood days. Spotting homey decorative items we see in the American movies is fun. I love it here!

Colors of life and happiness! The barista brewing a cup after the next, neon lights showcasing a quote about human nature: “to eat is human, to eat well is divine.” Sofas, relaxing chairs, mirrors, and flowers. A hundred shelves, a million object... home Sweet Home is your concept store, your coffee experience, and restaurant enjoyment.

I’ve been here, done that, loved it and now back for more. It’s just superb. Accompanied by my kids and lovely wife, we arrived on a calm sunny Monday for breakfast. Everything at Home Sweet Home is mastered to perfection.

On the breakfast menu, expect to discover a handful of innovative creations usually not found in Lebanon. Avocado toast, iron eggs, breakfast burrito, portobello sunny side up, Florentine eggs. Scrambled eggs a la Francaise, the millionaire croissant, all-American croissant, pancakes, the baskets, and several cakes and desserts.

Let’s eat:

  • Start with the breakfast burrito made of a chewy tortilla stuffed with a load of moist scrambled eggs beautifully mixed with molten cheese. Cherry tomatoes for the freshness and sweetness, avocado for the extra mile and a hint of spiciness at the end.
  • The tostada is super duper cool! Three potato toasts each topped with a sunny side up egg. Amazing to say the least; the flavors, the textures and the love you feel in every bite.

  • Comfort eggs, two of them in a toasted pain de Campagne with a slice of turkey, avocado slices; comfort food indeed.
  • Iron eggs is a plate different from all the others. In a cast iron pan you receive goat cheese, baby spinach, eggs and tomato confit topped with crunchy walnuts. The creation of a master who understands flavors and knows how to blend them. The creaminess of the goat cheese, juiciness of the spinach then comes the sweetness of the tomatoes.

Don’t leave without enjoying Home Sweet Home’s mouthwatering desserts. Chocolate, hazelnut pancakes with strawberries and the all-American croissant stuffed with peanut butter, strawberry jam, berries, and bananas. I loved the fluffiness of the pancakes and the filling of the croissant; I would change the chewy quality of the croissant and the toasted border’s of the pancakes though.

Best for last! The cookie skillet. A big-sized cookie baked in a porcelain pan topped with chocolate chips and left to melt from the inside out. The top crunches, the heart melts, and every note get you closer to foodgasm.

All good! A happy Sunday! Brunch at Home Sweet Home is an experience I recommend and will talk about with my friends.
