Who Has the Best Shawarma in Lebanon?
Quick Eats

Where to have a tasty Shawarma in Lebanon: my personal favorites!

Shawarma (Arabic: شاورما‎‎) is a Levantine meat preparation, where lamb, chicken, turkey, beef, veal, buffalo meat, or mixed meats are placed on a vertical spit, and may be grilled for as long as a day. Shavings are cut off the block of meat for serving, and the remainder of the block of meat is kept heated on the rotating spit. Shawarma can be served on a plate (generally with accompaniments), or as a sandwich or wrap. Shawarma is usually eaten with tabbouleh, fattoush, taboon bread, tomato, and cucumber. Toppings include tahini, hummus, pickled turnips, and amba.

ABUL 3EZZ

I love it! It's beautifully wrapped, fresh, juicy, loaded with flavors, generous and most importantly it comes without garlic!

Meat shawarma: superb. To start with, the meat is not like any shawarma you've had before, it has a density to it. It is put into toasted markouk bread with tarator. The meat is tender, the sauce is flavorful ... and what adds a special taste to these wraps is the line of sweet sauce on top. Chicken shawarma: I'm addicted to this... juicy chicken (not marinated in garlic), generously stuffed into the same crunchy markouk bread with a bit of mayonnaise for added moistness. It's not your usual shawarma: it's bigger, more tender and the crunchy bread makes all the difference.

JOSEPH

Thin and fresh bread, two layers of it, wrapped around a generous portion of meat or chicken alongside accompaniments. Premium quality, without any sauces or sophistication. Pure beef, premium chicken, juicy and tender with lettuce, pickles and fries for the white meat and parsley with tarator for the brown meat. A thick 8 centimeters in diameter, the wraps are filling without being heavy. I loved the quality of the ingredients, the juiciness of the meat, the crunchiness of the vegetables and the softness of the bread. An adequate amount of fat, some spiciness and that's it. Not over done, and not spilling from all sides - really unique.

SHAWARMA W SAJ

Shawarma at Shawarma w Saj has more than one meaning. This Lebanese diner is a place I have been too and enjoyed. I am here again to enjoy their sandwiches while listening to the soothing tunes of Fayruz. A selection of shawarma sandwiches and innovations are offered - the variety includes simple wraps and more complicated ones like the Burrito, the Burger, the Fajita and the Pita... all shawarma.

AL SAFA

Amazing! Awesome! The meat shawarma is huge and for only LBP5,000. A loaded wrap filled with meat, juicy with notes of sweetness, tomatoes and, for me, no onions. Wrapped in Lebanese bread followed by a roll of markouk, it is carefully heated on the grill, adding a light and enjoyable crunch. It's heavenly, delicious. The chicken wrap is as good, maybe better. Cooked to perfection, juicy chicken with a fatty and lightly chewy outside, fries and pickles. I asked for the garlic to be substituted with mayonnaise. Delicious! There's nothing more that words can say. It's a wrap I'll come back to Aley for. Generous, big, loaded, juicy, toasted, served hot and tasty! A must try.

BAYRUT STREET FOOD

Gourmet shawarma if I may say so. Meat marinated to perfection, tender and juicy, served with French fries and roasted tomatoes on the side. The finest of meats handled with love, marinated, carefully grilled and prepared to impress. I love its taste and texture.
