Madrid-Barajas Airport (code IATA: MAD, code ICAO: LEMD) is located on the northeast of Madrid, Barajas district, only 12 kilometers from Madrid city center.

The airport changed its name from Madrid-Barajas to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas in 2014.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas is the first airport in Spain, regarding passenger traffic, transport of goods and operations. It occupies the 5th position in the ranking of European airports based on the Eurostat agency data from the year 2014, and is the fifteenth in the world by passenger traffic, according to ACI agency statistics from the year 2014, with more than 29 million passengers and transported in 2014.

The airport provides four passenger terminals, one Executive terminal, one air cargo area, and two main areas of hangars, on one side the Old Industrial Area, between terminals T3 and T4 and the Industrial Area La Muñoza on the other side.

Madrid-Barajas counts on four runways, two to two parallel: 18L/36R - 18R/36L and 14L/32R - 14R/32L. Another one, the first one to be built, is now used as a parking lot.
