"I grew up in a house where food was essential, a major part of our daily life. A house in the village, open for everyone to come in and share with us that meal prepared by my mum, Maryam who I respect and adore. I dreamt of turning my house into a restaurant and knew that I would be doing that one day... I am Salam, a passionate cook, a housewife, the daughter of Maryam, passionately running my restaurant in JLT, a few blocks from where I live." I just met Salam, a genuine lady who tells her story with such passion, I felt like staying with her all day. "Beit Maryam," is home away from home; it’s about food like you eat it at home, no complications and no sophistication; Salam runs it like she operates her home Kitchen. I enjoyed my experience today and will surely be sharing it with all my friends visiting Dubai.
Located in one of JLT’s clusters between a handful of long skyscrapers, Beit Maryam is a small middle eastern restaurant with a view on the water canals. Middle eastern food inspired by the cuisines of Jordan, Palestine, and Lebanon. Fattet Khadra, mtabbal, hummus, Tabbouleh, lamb meat and chicken accompanied by rice, cooked the way my grandma used to do it.
On the menu: breakfast, manakish, fatayer, mezze, qallayat, Fattat, fakharat, on the grill, sides, desserts and hot drinks.
Food is so good! It starts with homemade bread and zaatar rolls all the way to knefeh and Ahlawat el Jeben with everything in between. It’s about the simplicity of ingredients, the freshness of fattoush, the unique and refreshing fatteh, the intense Baba Ghannouj, a tabbouleh only found up the village specially prepared for me without onions, tender barbecue meat and rice loaded with fried almonds. Lunch ended with a plate of sweet lamb chops I’ll remember for long.
Seeing Salam walk around with a wide smile on her face makes customers feel better. Satisfied and happy with her achievements, she goes in and out of her Kitchen checking if all plates are cooked the way she desires.
Relaxing, the restaurant is a homey experience one needs in the middle of a long business day. I loved here!
