It was a day of relaxation, a day out of Beirut without a camera or an episode to shoot, an escape from a daily chaotic life - a life that I love... walking the old streets of Byblos, one of the world's favorite cities.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy it that much, wasn't expecting to feel this kind of peace and surely I wasn't expecting to eat food that good. Breakfast at Byblos sur Mer, Le Tournesol cafe, I'll remember it and be back.

I pushed the door open to the buffet, an open buffet with the needed thins for a fresh start of day. Around it is the restaurant, a kind of "campagne" style with white rugged tables and blue chairs, an old style pavement, a wooden ceiling and some sofas which add touches of color and style. The place is relaxing, oozing some fine positive vibes.

With an open view of the beautiful Mediterranean, I sat for breakfast... I ended up leaving at 3pm. The vibes activate all your senses, the air conditioning cooling down the room on one side while rays of sunshine warm up the other side. Relaxing sofas, a professional staff... I think I've discovered a new favorite spot.

A la carte or buffet, choose either of the two options, the buffet goes for LBP33,000.

I enjoyed the food so much:

  • The labneh is delicious, the manakish are crispy and full of taste with a fine quality of Zaatar, the eggs are awesome... I picked a bit of everything and came back to my table to enjoy them. The manakish are really good and crispy, and better combined with labneh. The quality of the labneh is so good that I finished the plate entirely. The jam selection is good and not too sweet. Even the eggs, served on toast and mixed with cheese and bacon are one of the best I've had in Lebanon. All of this for only LBP33,000/person.
  • After that, I started working on some of my notes, ordering San Pellegrino, a bottle at a time. They were served in an ice bucket like a bottle of wine with a glass of bulky ice and some lemon slices. I was happy...

Fayrouz, jazz, lounge... Beautiful music played in the background while people started arriving for lunch. I wished I could stay for more, but promised myself to come again.

Breakfast, a fine one I surely recommend, Byblos sur Mer is an option.

Afterwards, a walk on the marina, I ended up fracturing my elbow... A day and breakfast I'll remember for long.
