Supporting and visiting hotels in Lebanon has been one of my main priorities since I started the blog in 2012. People needed to know, -mainly locals- that you can have breakfast at a hotel without booking a room. Le Royal is one of Lebanon’s famous luxury hotels nestled on Dbayeh’s hill facing the beautiful Mediterranean. Let’s have breakfast!

I’ve been here in 2013, back in 2017 and now for a third visit by the pool. (Read the previous reviews). I enjoyed my cigar and coffee and will come back for that. I appreciated the service and attention, but unfortunately, the food is still as bad as it was since 2013. I'm sorry for being harsh using the word "Bad." Let’s have breakfast...

Again... to be fair and square, thank you for the attention; Even though the service should be way better for a five star hotel, I appreciated the smiles and attention. Plates were not changed, coffee was not refilled... anyway, let's talk about the food: reading back my previous articles, nothing has changed since the last visit. Manoucheh is still excellent, and it stops here; nothing else is up to standard.

The food:

  • Pancakes are not fluffy, not airy and lack airiness. They are unpleasantly chewy. Old strawberries and old berries decorate the plate. The pancake batter was not prepared earlier to relax and rise.
  • Eggs Benedict!!! Come on!!!! Where is the sauce hollandaise? Why is the salmon quality so cheap? Why are the poached eggs overcooked? Dry poached eggs with a side of salmon, no sauce, no life. (The picture says it all). Please change this plate's name and stop poaching eggs.
  • Fatteh! Oh My Goodness! Undercooked crunchy chickpeas floating in water with soggy bread and a little tiny bit of cold Laban. No flavor, no taste, no emotions.
  • Croissant: is this a croissant or a chewy bread made without butter. Where’s the butter in this croissant? No flakiness, no airiness, no life, and an excess of sugar. Why is it chewy and bready anyway.
  • Best of all are the manakish: Excellent manakish, very fluffy dough, good Zaatar quality, and the cheese manouche is as good. Enjoyably oily, lightly salty, very fluffy, beautifully carved on the sides, and loaded with flavors. Bravo for such good quality; you would usually expect this from your local traditional bakery, not a hotel.

I've been here, done that, expecting a change or improvement on every visit. Does anyone taste the food at the hotel? Because of the standard, please do something about it.

I will change; The ugly violet china which doesn't fit for a hotel. -that's my opinion at least.

For only 45,000LL, I will come back for the coffee and puff a cigar on the terrace without eating.
