It’s the place everyone talks about in New York, the restaurant that takes you on a journey to Alice’s imaginary wonderland. An impressive decor, bright colors and creative designs, a restaurant serving huge desserts only seen on television. Visiting Dubai for a couple of days, I stopped at Serendipity3 for breakfast. Chicken waffles, pancakes, and eggs were the choices.
Located in the heart of Dubai Festival City, Serendipity 3 comes with a terrace facing the fountain. Colorful chairs, metallic boxes, sexy chandeliers with several paintings and photos spread on many levels across the shop. The restaurant serves ice cream and cakes from the bar overviewing the restaurant.
As of nine, Serendipity serves breakfast, a rich American breakfast with a choice of pancakes, waffles, chicken, eggs, granola, bagels and much more. The combo includes juice and coffee for only 59DHS.
Plates look dull as if made by machines, missing the passion a chef has.
Food is below average:
- Eggs Florentine; three poached eggs on three toasted muffins covered with hollandaise sauce and balsamic vinegar. The eggs are overcooked, the bun is fine, Hollandaise sauce has an interesting acidity but why the balsamic; it adds an unpleasant sweetness to the mix. The plate is decorated with roasted cherry tomatoes.
- Fluffy waffles like if they were prepare the night before, very thin and crunchy chicken strips with maple syrup on the side. I would have expected the waffles to be fresh and crispy, the strips to be thicker and have less oil taste. Not something I’ll recommend to my friends. PS: I made sure to ask if they are marinated with garlic, and yes, I discovered garlic powder after I had the first bite.
- Dry ricotta pancakes need more sauce and more life. There’s nothing exceptional about them, nothing I’ll remember about this plate needing life and enjoyment.
I’ve heard people come once with no return and now is my time to say the same; American food that’s not even tasty. Compared to Sugar Factory and Cheesecake Factory up on the first floor, both have way better food!
