A very long time ago, I can even remember when, probably before even graduating from dental school, I was asked to take photos of a hotel that is expected to open in downtown Beirut. The pool on the roof was ready, the signboards where installed the rooms were furnished and that long line of colorful electrical strings was already decorating the atrium. And then the hotel stalled for a decade or so. I’m back today, looking at the newly opened space and planning to have breakfast; a breakfast I enjoyed.
Breakfast, a tasty breakfast, superb welcoming, fresh and positive vibes, excellent welcoming... I enjoyed my time!
Let’s agree that The Hilton Beirut looks odd on the outside, doesn’t have a cafe trottoir, lacks a big and impressive entrance but don’t judge too quickly; on the inside, beautifully decorated and nicely lit, the hotel makes you want to stay and spend some time enjoying its two outlets: the coffee bar and restaurant.
Greenery coming down from the partition walls, white lanterns pending from the ceiling, grey bricks, decorative items, glass facades and soothing music in the background. I loved the design chairs, the yellow napkins, Siom cutlery, and colorful "Kahla" China.
Delicious food is served at the Hilton: flaky and airy croissants, good quality cheese and cold cuts, fresh bread, and mouthwatering jams.
I asked for three special orders; waffles, pancakes, and eggs Benedict; bravo chefs!
- Eggs Benedict: prepared a la minute, the eggs need a bit more extra time than expected. Freshly made hollandaise poured on two poached eggs laying on toasted bread. I loved the crunch, the flowing egg yolk, and the hollandaise acidity.
- Waffles: good quality waffles, not chewy but slightly undercooked.
- Pancakes: it’s not about the pancakes but that chocolate cream that came with them. I loved it!
All good... excellent service, great quality, fresh vibes, colorful mood, and professional staff. Breakfast in the heart of Beirut made me smile. I will be back sooner than you expect and will recommend it to my friends.
