It's been some time since I last visited Cafe Diem, a cafe on Sodeco Street with a different approach than your average coffee place. I recently went there for breakfast.

Cafe Diem has changed recently and is now only open for lunch and breakfast, the sarasin crepes have been dropped and the menu now offers four salads and sandwiches along with their famous crepes.

Sitting there, you feel like you're in a Parisian cafe. I like the white and black colors, the wooden chairs and white tables, the long bar and lights hanging from the ceiling. Cereals, yogurts, fresh fruits, eggs, sweet crepes, fresh juices, a coffee menu, beverages and a tea selection, there's a lot to take in.

Details to look out for: They use Mariage tea, one of the world's best and Vascobelo, their coffee, is a premium Belgium blend.

Breakfast:

  • Granola, homemade yogurt and fruit: That was delicious. A glass bowl filled with yogurt and covered with granola, almonds and diced fruit with some raisins. I really loved it. Not the usual breakfast you find in Lebanon.

  • Scrambled eggs with cheese, mushrooms and bacon: Simply eggs. Light bright yellow scrambled eggs with no oil and mixed with fresh mushrooms, all served on toast. Grind some salt and pepper and enjoy. It's a carefully-prepared dish and is delicious.

  • Valrhona 70% chocolate crepe: That's a masterpiece. A fluffy, thin crepe loaded with melting dark chocolate, Valrhona, the world's best chocolate, all sprinkled with powdered sugar. Close your eyes, indulge in something that few know how to in Lebanon. It's so simple, yet so good. Majestically laid on a round plate, two crepes folded in a triangular shape and inside you'll find "the" chocolate.

I'm not sure what happened but today was one of the most pleasant visits I've had recently. Come here for breakfast, a meeting, sip a premium coffee. Cafe Diem it is.
