It's in the heart of Chinatown, an ice cream shop renowned to be one of the best in New York. Chinatown ice factory is worth a visit.

The origins of ice cream are both mythical and abstract, including legends attributing the invention of ice cream to the Chinese during the Tang Dynasty. Despite its unclear beginnings, the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory (CICF) has made ice cream a tangible and an undeniably delicious reality! By coalescing American’s most popular dessert with an exotic Chinese twist, Philip Seid demonstrates a unique entrepreneurship in establishing CICF. Having been in existence for over 28 years, CICF stands today as one of Chinatown’s oldest businesses, and is often referred to as an unofficial landmark. CICF continues its tradition of being a family run operation, with a new generation of Seid ice cream makers, including Philip’s daughters Christina and Katherine. What’s the secret to our delectable frozen products?

It's a small low ceiling shop with three fridges loaded with many flavors that change depending on the season. Expect some bizarre flavors including the Stinky Fruit, Black Sesame, Ginger, Wasabi as well as beans and pumpkin pie.

I chose three unconventional flavors and I loved them. The Black Sesame, Ginger and durian dubbed the stinky fruit. I wanted to try Wasabi, but they were out. Order the waffle cone for an additional dollar, fill it with three scoops and prepare yourself to enjoy.

While being served you can't but notice how famous this place is. Articles and stickers are plastered everywhere to reconfirm how important it is to come here.

Cash only is the rule!

The ice cream is strong in texture and offers sharp flavors, rich aromas and a long lasting after note. Ginger is a bit sweet and white color, black sesame is black and full bodied as for the durian is the most aromatic ice cream I've ever eaten.

I'm a big fan of ice cream and I try visiting as many shops as I can, and this one is indeed one of my favorites. I have been some popular ones in Paris but wasn't amazed as I was in this small hole in the wall called The Ice Factory. It’s a must try.
