This is a place that screams ‘lovely,’ from the setup to the cuisine.
A unique French brasserie in Gemmayze, Couqley is situated in the "Alleyway". Chef Alexis Couqley has a very special way of cooking and presenting food, which lets you feel the French spirit. The first impression captures your feelings and lets you enjoy more, while appreciating the happy staff, who remain careful, attentive and funny, making sure to deliver the finest. The assistant manager himself took the order at our table. I didn't like the water served in a plastic bottle since we all know that international norms recommend high end restaurants to serve water in glass bottles.
The ambiance of Couqley is funny and casual with no music and that's a plus, not a bad point: A real brasserie. The food is very tasty and generous, as well as meticulously prepared and presented. We had the Foie Gras, Penne Arabiata, a Cheeseburger, Lemon Chicken and the Spicy Calamari of from what I can remember. The spicy calamari and the hamburger are simply delicious. Its one of the places I would like to visit again and again in Beirut.
