Diep: A Chinese Restaurant in Paris

For as long as I remember coming to Paris, Diep's been here and renowned as one of the capital’s best Chinese restaurants. It’s not stated as nor considered to be fine dining but has a particular class to it and reputation, making me want to revisit it at least once a year. I've been here already and to their other location, once for lunch and once for dinner to experience the European way of treating Chinese and Thai food.

Spread across two floors Diep is dark inside but has a strong light over every table helping with the photos. A pleasant welcome, a professional waiter to start followed by an upmarket experience where the table cover is white and clean and the cutlery and china is up to the standard of a Michelin Star. The food is excellent and doesn’t contain much garlic as other Chinese restaurants do it.

On the menu, a Thai section and a Chinese part with the chef’s recommendations.

Is it the cantina of every Lebanese visiting Paris?! I'd bet half the place was Lebanese and the other half from other Arab countries. I had so much fun listening to the Egyptian table next to us smiling and telling jokes out loud. Experiencing the restaurant with a full-house tonight reconfirms its success and good quality of the food. So let’s eat...

A pleasant experience I’ll make sure to recommend to my friends. You have to start with a gooey corn and chicken soup. Chinese salad made of cucumbers and soya beans, a crunchy croissant (sambousik) stuffed with shrimp, warm and tender shrimp dumplings, super crunchy fried spring sticky rolls stuffed with mushrooms and vegetables, flaky shrimp toast with an end note of juiciness... dip in one of the four sauces and enjoy! Good food is served here, and it’s quick.

Best of the best is the Peking Duck, the tastiest hoisin sauce you could ever experience, the softest and stickiest bread ever, the juiciest and most flavorful duck of all time with a crunchy duck skin to make things even better. It’s so finger-licking good, and a must try despite the 80€ price tag - it's worth every penny.

More food was yet to come: rice as it should be mixed with mini shrimp and fried eggs. Tender, spicy beef. Sweet and sour shrimp and noodles. Despite the rush tonight; the dozens of customers coming in one after the other, the food quality was consistently good.

The experience, the vibe, the mood and the food... I love it here and will certainly come back!
