Ferdinand Doesn't Cease to Amaze Me

The experience started with a smile and hopefully will end with one. We were welcomed by the manager who ran to show us around with a big huge smile on his face. He even went to get us a San Pellegrino from another restaurant, a sister restaurant called Apetito.

Ferdinand was on my list since I first started NGNO and every time I posted about a burger, people told me to come here, to Ferdinand, they say it has one of the finest burgers around.

Nestled on Mahatma Ghandi street, follow the "F" to reach Ferdinand. My idea was to let Google maps do the directions and it worked.

Small square tiles, dimmed lighting, a brick wall and its decorative red wooden window, leather sofas, a long bar with its high stools, book shelves and lots of candles. I loved the main chandelier of candles at the entrance, a huge chandelier which thousands of candles have already melted on. Look up, there ceiling is nice to look at.

"You guys are hungry!" The manager shouted when we ordered. It was 6pm, not even dinner time, but I wanted to try as much as I could to have an honest and decent review.

Asking around, I knew that Ferdinand had new owners and a new decoration, a new menu as well. This Gastropub offers a large selection of food of which 7 bites, 5 starters, 6 mains, 4 salads and 2 desserts.

Let's have some food:

  • Devils on Horseback LBP12,000: Sweet and savory meet. An oven baked prune wrapped in bacon, as simple as that. Seven rolls of bacon around cooked prunes. The sweetness of the prunes, the smoothness of the bacon... That's guaranteed enjoyment. Two thumbs up. An amazing texture of softness and a great taste of professionalism. I loved how they melt in your mouth in style.

  • Cheese Blossoms LBP13,000: Oven baked filo dough blossoms filled with a homemade cheesy stuffing,  yum on its own. Yum it is! Bravo! Six puff pastry dough carved in cup shapes filled with extremely melting cheese and béchamel sauce with a smooth feeling and topped with parmesan and black sesame seeds which add a touch of finesse at the end of the experience. Lovely.

  • Ferdinand Burger LBP22,500: a delicate marriage of flavors indeed. Toasted brioche bun thick need and an in-house blueberry jam sauce, cheddar cheese and bacon strips. WAW! That's guaranteed amazement on a plate. It starts when you see the olive tree platter land in front of you. Just imagine a premium bun, slightly toasted, filled with a ranch sauce, crispy bacon and a hint of sweetness at the end. What the heck is that? That's a gourmet burger for sure. Loved the textures, loved the flavors, loved the overdose of sauce, loved the richness... Wonderful.

  • Pulled BBQ Chicken Po'Boy Sandwich LBP16,000: Capturing Louisiana's spirit, this slow'n low cooked chicken will sit on a bed of a smoky coleslaw and French bread. When you say square bread, it's usually chewy French bread is ususaly thicker than others. This one is so light, filled with a smooth mix of tender chicken and crunchy coleslaw. Simplicity redefined, if I may say. A perfect sandwich. Don't forget about the fries, they are divine.

The pluses:

  • I loved the spirit
  • I loved the ambiance
  • I loved the simplicity of the decor
  • The food is divine

 The minuses:

  • The music is not loud, but the treble is too high. You feel it in your brain. Would have been better lowered down to enjoy the food for a longer time
  • The kitchen is slow

It's a Gastropub, not a calm restaurant, but some seriously good food is served. Loved it! The burger will be part of the TOP10 list for sure.
