L'Estelle en Camargue, a hotel in the heart of a three hectare estate set in the wild Camargue countryside, is enhanced by its lake overlooking a superb swimming pool and a comfortable terrace where a coffee is enjoyed any time of the day. Smart rooms with Provencal colors, suites with views of the garden or private terraces are all you need to get transported into another dimension of total relaxation.
Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer is the capital of the Camargue in the South of France. It is a commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department by the Mediterranean Sea. 30kms from the highway, inside the heart of the Camargue area, is L'Estelle, a five stars hotel that makes you forget all about the city's chaos and fast paced life we live in today. We came here to spend three unforgettable nights, in an ambiance unmatched anywhere else on earth. Arrive at the main building, check in, before going out to the cabanas. There you have to walk outside around the lake and access one of the newly refurbished rooms. A high ceiling room with a view on the waters.

Keep an open mind... You will have to bare the fact that many insects will be sharing your stay. You're staying in a natural environment away from the city. I loved the ecological aspect of this place where drinking water is produced on site, room keys use no electronics and all lights are shut down at midnight.
The minus:
Their restaurant's food is bad We spent three memorable nights of relaxation while discovering the region and all its hidden secrets during the day. Four complete days that were not enough to fully enjoy the hotel's services as we spent our time discovering the cities of Arles, Nîmes, Saintes Maries de la Mer and the lagoons that surround the region. Before our departure, the owner left a thank-you note with a box of salt from the region as a goodbye gift: A well appreciated gesture.
The best thing this hotel has to offer is their majestic breakfast which deserves a review of its own. The only minus is its dinner that I didn't appreciate at all. The staff is welcoming and always smiling, and with all the available services, 300€ a night is well deserved. I enjoyed my stay even though I think with a few minor improvements made will make this hotel completely deserve the five stars claimed.
