I needed an escape to new year’s eve. An escape from crowded Prague... my wife suggested Dresden. I’ve been here for couple hours in 2014 and honestly don’t remember a thing so why not visit again. Spending the New Year’s Eve in style, we booked at the Kempinski, one of my favorite brands.
Built in the 18th century by August the Strong, as a pledge of love to his mistress, and faithfully restored in 1995, Hotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski Dresden is a beautiful combination of historic glory and contemporary elegance.
Directly located in the very heart of Dresden’s historic city center, the hotel offers 182 rooms, 31 suites and culinary excellence from restaurant Intermezzo, the Palais Bistro, Café Vestibül, and the award-winning Karl May Bar. The historic inner courtyard is an oasis of relaxation during summer and turns into a sparkling ice rink in wintertime.
The Taschenbergpalais has its own pool, and spa lounge and fitness center.
Arrive at a palace, park underground and take the elevator up to the lobby. Class, finesse and style welcome you for a memorable first impression. Quick check-in and you’re ready to roll. Felix rooms with a very high ceiling, a double or king size bed, a working desk, a television station, two sofas, and a wide bathroom, two washing sinks a bathtub and shower.
Our room had its view on the courtyard where an ice rink is installed for winter. I loved how spacious it is, its relaxing carpet, modern yet traditional design and warm lighting. I loved the bathroom, the water pressure, and space.
At night, the Kempinski is in the heart! Few meters away from the old town, the opera and business center. You can discover the city in minutes: arriving in the afternoon, we walked around the hotel to have a quick idea of Dresden while standing by the river for the New Year’s Eve fireworks.
The minuses:
- Parking is 25€ a night.
- Beds are not relaxing at all and pillows are too small.
- Rooms are way too hot! Opening the windows didn’t solve the problem.
I loved it here and would recommend the Kempinski to my friends visiting Dresden.
