It’s impressive how busy this hotel is. The three restaurants were always full during our three days stay, while people continued on walking in and out. Located in the heart of the city, you will witness many luxurious cars parking outside, and many businessmen walking in for their lunch meetings. The bar, the Italian restaurant, and the Japanese restaurant: three choices you can choose from. At the bar, expect a casual menu, including salads, a cheeseburger, fish and meat choices.
Facing the restaurant, with a view on the lake, have dinner in an English atmosphere. English bar style, wood, and thick carpet, old oil paintings, Churchill style seats, and jazz music. Lovely vibes, soothing music, happy staff, positive vibes... I was happy to choose “Bar des Bergues” for lunch.
Amuse bouche: lot fish with émulation of mozzarella, a lemony sauce, and crunchy wheat. Served in a soup plate and presented with a fork, it’s one bite to open your appetite and prepare your taste buds for what’s expected next. Bread on another hand is not up to expectations; hard and chewy bread.
Even though I ordered the burrata and received a plate of vegetables; I loved it!!!! Black truffles shaved on top of a mountain of arugula and fresh greens covering a handful of boiled vegetables. Carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and more. Beautifully seasoned, a bit of olive oil, a bit of lemon and a sprinkle of pepper.
Smoked salmon, thick and fatty smoked salmon served with pain-de-mie bread, sour cream, capers, onions, and parsley. I loved the salmon quality, the oiliness of it, the bread served warm and generosity of the portion. I liked how the capers are shredded and hot the bread is pressed and toasted.
The burger is deceiving: hard and dry bread, overcooked patty but good meat quality. I loved the meat but not the overall creation. Leaving the kitchen, the meat looked dry and I believe the chef should have taken action immediately. A clear lack of sauce and juiciness. A huge portion of fries made my day. For the price paid, the burger is not worth it. I enjoyed the club sandwich, a multilayered sandwich with tender bread and crisp vegetables. I enjoyed the egg -it’s not dry as well as the tender bacon.
Good but not exceptional; a pleasant experience but the food should have been better. I liked the mise en bouche, enjoyed the dark chocolate fondant cakes at the end, their excellent service but... food is below expectations, especially with the price paid. The restaurant is very expensive for what it is.
