I'm already planning to come back to Iceland and more specifically to visit some of their amazing hotels lost within nature’s most amazing settings… Hotel A is one of them. With a view to the river, this hotel hosted a simple flavorful lunch I enjoyed.
Park the car and access the lobby, you’ll find the restaurant and bar. All the main services of this hotel are found in one large rectangular shaped room divided by a chimney in its middle. Towards the end of the room, you’ll find a large glass facade, which gives a panoramic view to the valley.
It’s breathtaking to the extent you can enjoy a few hours relaxing your senses…
Lunch started with the Icelandic fish soup served in a mug. All ingredients are mashed and offer a zesty and flavorful soup, with a hint of smooth saltiness, fish content in a full-bodied liquid.
The menu:
- Icelandic seafood soup
- Cream and fresh vegetables soup
- Spit roasted leg of lamb with garlic and rosemary
- Roasted cod, parsnip puree and herb salad
- Creamed barley with fennel and mushrooms
- Vegetable hot pot
- Gratin Dauphinois
- Baked root vegetables
- Tomato salad with ginger and mint
- Warm chocolate cake with strawberries and cream
- Apple crumble cake
On the buffet table was a piece of lamb, potatoes with fresh cream, salad, hot bowls of Barley, tomatoes, grilled vegetables, fish, a fruit basket and two choices of desserts and some bowls of strawberry and whipped cream.
Lunch was simple yet very tasty - juicy fish, tender meat, exotic vegetables and unique bowls of Barley, something I have never had before. Everything I had was rich in flavor.
I ended my lunch with some apple crumble, chocolate fondant and strawberry dipped in whipped cream.
At the bar, a coffee machine brews fresh coffee on demand.
This was a quick introduction to the hotel. A place that serves tasty food… I am hoping to come back here again on my next visit to Iceland.
