The smell enchants your nostrils the minute you walk in. Travel along the display bar, before accessing the dining space: Maison de la Truffe, à restaurant since 1932 serving French Gastronomy’s black diamond. Located in front of the Madeleine, the restaurant is a black truffle paradise. Cozy, calm, and upscale, serving upscale dishes in a soothing atmosphere.

Under a low ceiling painted in white, three rows of tables fill up the space; covered with grey fabrics, Peugeot pepper mill, white napkins and two wine glasses alongside a bred plate and silver cutlery. On the walls, you can see photos of black truffles and how the black diamond is harvested in nature.

We were approached by the head waiter who just returned from his cigarette break, spreading the smells all over the restaurant. With a strong memory, he listened to our order without taking notes.

We ordered black truffle fettuccini, black truffle risotto, black truffle pizza, foie gras with truffle, and a salad.

Good food is served here! Brie cheese wrapped in flaky puff pastry like a Millefeuille is a cocktail of rich textures. The salmon with black truffles is a perfect combination of flavors and the salmon is excellent; thick pieces of smoked salmon served cold with shaved truffles on top. The Burrata is molten and milky on a bed of thick tomato. Back to the truffle, queen of all dishes today!

Then came the rest; I believe that I had today probably the most expensive pizza in Paris -at 43€- but one of the best ever! It’s gourmet, loaded, rich and created to impress. Enough cheese to make you smile, truffle olive oil, a load of black truffles and a decoration of roquettes on a brown crust that doesn’t ressemble any pizza I’ve had before. Not Italian, not American more of a Lebanese Manoucheh that’s fluffy with a light crunch. A layer of shredded truffles, cheese, then another on top; bravo for such a marvelous creation.

Professional service and attention, quality, music, and good food; upscale eating with no complication. Come as you are, and eat well. Expect to pay an average of 80€/person without wine.

I’ll repeat the experience.
