Walking down the streets of San Francisco, a coffee shop grabbed my attention. Mazarine Coffee looks fresh with a traditional feel. A wide space, ceramic tiles, an industrial ceiling, wooden tables and leather benches follow the walls. Soft music finishes the scene.
Tartines, sandwiches and signature coffees, the place is inspired by Paris' most famous library called Mazarine.
A cappuccino - that is great for a picture - a bar facing the busy streets and a certain positive vibe travelling along the tables of this coffee shop. I loved the lighting which helped me to take superb photos.
I tried three tartines:
- On a piece of brown bread, purple beetroot hummus is spread with slices of avocado and fresh greens. Thick yet fresh bread, crunchy on the sides and chewy in the middle, hummus with a bit too much garlic and ripe avocados mixed with crumbled white cheese.
- Ham, eggs and cheese, the same thick piece of bread, shredded ham, a fried egg in the middle and melted cheese. The sandwich looks great but the bread is a bit too prominent and the saltiness of the mix disrupts the overall experience. Loved the mustard but would have added more cheese and more ham.
- Nutella and crunchy hazelnuts, a beautiful combination, an interesting sandwich, a muted saltiness, enjoyable Nutella and thick bread.
A special place to visit on my continued tour around town, where I learned more about coffee, took beautiful photos and tried a new approach to sandwiches.
