Honestly, I was not planning on having dinner at Mizu, but the popular Sugar Fish next door was fully booked. Mizu was empty. Handled by unprofessional and unwelcoming staff, pop music blasting out in the background and sport on the tv screens. The place looks like a fast food joint.

I wasn't expecting anything fancy, but not this.

Mizu is a Japanese and Thai experience on Theodore Roosevelt Way Street. I ordered a salmon salad, Tina Tataki and three special rolls. When I asked the waiter to recommend something, the answer was "Everything is the same, there are no specialities".

I had a memorable dinner at Zuma just the night before... eating cheap food like this was surely not what I was expecting tonight.

The best part was my Sake, the Ozeki Karatamba. Superbly dry, smooth and crisp on the palate.

There wasn't anything exceptional or fancy about it:

  • Tuna tatami was probably prepared earlier: dry fish served on a plate decorated like a burger platter. Disgusting.
  • Salmon slices served in a rectangular plate on a bed of greens. Simple salmon, good quality but better enjoyed with soy sauce. I couldn't taste a thing!
  • And then the rolls - dry rice, no sauce at all, a little fish and some spices.

I'm not sure how a place like this is still open. Below average food, unwelcoming service, a horrid ambiance and a costly outcome.
