A social house in a New Orleans inspired venue, Nola in Dubai, offers Southern American food that's healthier than usual. Wait in line or reserve in advance and walk into a industrial space set under a low black ceiling where the bar takes center stage. White bricks cover the walls, windows separate the different sections of the restaurant, while yellow dimmed lights sets the mood. It is a bit too dark in here.
The menu has an interesting choice of American inspired creations.
On the menu: Starters and sharing, the Cajun grill, salads, sides, sandwiches and burgers, mains and desserts.
We ordered, the baked Camembert, the Guacamole with spicy avocado dip and tortilla chips, the Po Boy homemade brioche sliders with slow cooked pulled beef.
- Richly flavored guacamole, a kind of a puree where avocado is the main ingredient. You'll enjoy real taste of guacamole. I would add tomatoes and some lemon as well. The nachos are thin, fresh and crunchy.
- The sliders, three of them, served on a board of wood. Big brioche buns like mini panettone without the sugar. A loaded dry bread filled with mashed meat. What a deception! Not good, not even tasty, I couldn't eat more than a bite; the texture is disturbing, the meat is unpleasant to eat and the bun is extremely thick and dry.
- Now for the camembert served in a puff pastry. A chewy dough wrapped around a molten Camembert that leaves a metallic taste. The jam on the side is too spicy for my taste; not what I expect with my Camembert.
I hear from my friends that the drinks are bizarre as well.
Not sure if there is anything else to write about. An enjoyable ambiance , good music, positive vibes but make sure not to eat; food is below the average one expects.
