Sand-Witch: The Happy Sandwich Place

Six customers sitting at the bar, a place loaded with hungry people, the owner and a manager handling delivery calls, five chefs working like a busy beehive handing sandwiches to the hungry crowd. What a place! A simple Lebanese food shack open for the last twenty years promises a guaranteed satisfaction. Much more than a restaurant, a dream place! Meet Georges and Joseph, they rock!

I’ve never experienced such vibes in Lebanon before; imagine an American diner as you see it in movies, people sitting at the bar and watching their food being prepared; Sand-witch managed to experience the same here in Lebanon serving local sandwiches made with much love! Fantastic food, amazing vibes... a dream experience!

The phone didn’t stop ringing; customers didn’t stop walking in, the grill didn’t stop sizzling... it was already four in the afternoon.

As a welcome note, you are offered a plate of fries; they serve it with garlic and pickles. Thick hand cut fries best enjoyed with ketchup, lightly salted, crispy like my grandma used to do them.

Let’s start with a Shawarma, one of the juiciest Shawarma’s I’ve ever tasted wrapped in tender Markouk bread. Well balanced and tasty, that loaded sandwich is made to impress.

Come here for the submarine, the burger, the Shawarma, the fries and other people come here for the garlic! I was smiling continuously like a kid in Disneyland.

The food at Sandwitch is simple; simplicity is key, flavors of your childhood, soft bread without any sophistication, no butter needed on the buns, no excess tasting... as it is, pure and clear putting forward the real flavors of each ingredient. I enjoyed the chicken submarine sandwich where the bread melts under the teeth feeling the sesame covering it, filled with juicy chicken enjoyment. The burger is that burger grandma never did, soft buns, juicy patty, ketchup, fries, and coleslaw.

Sandwitch is where giving your comments on food is not applicable because passion is the driver. It’s where social media doesn’t have a place because authenticity is the key. I felt good the minute I walked in, and I promised myself to come again and again at least once a month.

I was not done yet; there was one additional sandwich on my list.  Pain au lait, a tender hotdog without the smell of cans, ketchup, moutarde a l’ancienne and a load of white cheese which they melt on top; yummy!

I’m not sure words were enough to describe the experience; much more than a restaurant this place makes you fly! A must experience at least once in a lifetime.
