Philippe Starck, this truly iconic French designer with a unique democratic design concept and his partnership with Alessi, laguiole has brought us many revolutionizing kitchen utensils.
Some of his original creations in this field are:
- Max Le Chinoisfor Alessi:Designed in 1987, a chinois in french is a colander. Max le Chinois as in Max the Chinese also has a strong design impact, which you can’t say for any other colander. It also has a plastic insert to allow usage as a vase, bowl or even bucket!
- The Citrus Squeezerfor Alessi:A surprisingly functional squeezer designed in 1990, considered as partly a kitchen gadget and a full time art piece. Inspired from a squid with its teardrop body and long slim curving legs it allows you to pour the lemon directly in your glass.
- The Faitoo for Alessi:Faitoo is an elegant kitchen utensils set designed in 1996, in which the many designs incorporated by Starck transform each serving tool into a modern design experience. it is composed of the Cucchiaio spoon, the Loochtoo ladle, the Magneto salad/poultry fork, the Loochtoo small ladle with a spout, the Peltoo spatula with a smiley face and the Zebra stripped Passtoo skimmer.
- The Steak knives for Laguiole:The first edition designed in 1986 is available in a full stainless steel handle or with one made of cow horn. For it’s 25th year anniversary Laguiole along with Starck reedited the steak into a contemporary version with a matte wood effect.
There are so many more to talk about but I have just chosen my favorites to share.
