Leonardo: Italian Food at The Fairmont Cairo

Spending the weekend in Cairo, we were booked to stay at the Fairmont and I'm happy we were doing so. Located just a few minutes from the airport and before entering Cairo's heavy traffic, the Fairmont welcomes you for an enjoyable stay. Whether you're planning a long or short trip, the facilities available at the Fairmont is worth a try.

Arrive at the hotel and choose one of two entrances. The hotel building followed by the apartments area where a very wide lobby and its high ceiling give an impressive first impression while you take a walk on the left to the reception where individuals desks prepare your check-in.

It was 11am, after a long morning from airport to airport, we immediately went for breakfast or what was more like a lunch for us. Breakfast at the Fairmont is spread on three different islands and hosts an interesting choice of specialities from cheese, bread, fruits and hot dishes. A chef prepares eggs a la minute.

My room was on the 2nd floor. Big enough, the room is close to being a suite. A corridor leads to the large room where a king size bed awaits. A working desk, 2 red sofas, a loaded mini bar and a big bathroom divided into three corners. The shower, the bathtub and the toilet. Room has all the needed amenities, a relaxing bed, a strong water pressure, fine shampoo in a calm environment.

Internet is free in the lobby but costs $15/day in the room.

It's the next morning and I headed down straight for breakfast. A clean and neat breakfast display, enough to satisfy your craving before a long day of work. Bread and gluten free toast, read made mini burgers, potato, beef bacon, grilled tomatoes. Sausages, boiled eggs: baked beans, foul and hummus, couscous and oatmeal. On the other side is Halawa, jams, cereals and fruits. Three choices of muffins, cakes and mini croissants. Bread, butter (isigny) and four choices of Danish pastry. Four choices of cheese, cold cuts, salmon and a loaded oriental salad bar.

There's a live section with pancakes, crepes and waffles as well as any kind of eggs. The pancakes crumbles like old bread, waffles doesn't crunch, the crepe chews, the eggs have an oily taste but again, but I was happy, I enjoyed it, I was smiling continuously. All was good enough, actually better than I had expected.

PS: Do not eat the burger!

Staff is welcoming, the chef's smile and interaction with customers is memorable.

Back to the hotel, last night before departure, we had a wide choice of restaurants to choose from. An Italian, fast food, Mexican, Lebanese, sushi, the bar and more. A live band is here to entertain you for the night.

A good experience I would personally repeat.
