Valrhona Easter Contest 2016: Lebanon Wins 1st Prize

It's with great pride that I share with you this happy news. Lebanon has won Valrhona's 2016 chocolate egg contest. Congratulations to Pierre Abi Hayla, the creator of this beautiful masterpiece which has positioned Lebanon once again on the international chocolate map.

NAME OF CREATION: Egstrate
 
DESCRIPTION OF CREATION: An Easter egg with seven layers of differently shaded chocolate. These include Valrhona’s four colors (dark, milk, Dulcey and white) as well as three colored layers to complete our chocolate rainbow. Egg-shaped cut-outs uncover every separate layer. The name Egstrate is a combination “Egg” and “strata”, which means geological layer.

The company was founded in 1922 by a French pastry chef, Albéric Guironnet, from the Rhône valley and has five subsidiaries and 60 local distributors across the globe. Valrhona produces vintage chocolate made from beans of a single year's harvest from a specific plantation, primarily the Grand Crus which is grown in South America, Oceania and the Caribbean.
