Find a small grey kiosk on the Deek el Mehdi road facing the entrance of Champville school. Brgrz&Fries, which has been open for a while now, has recently been popping up all over social media. Of course intrigued, I headed there to check things out for myself.
Brgrz&Fries is a stationary trailer owned by "Deek Stores Supermarket” next to it. You'll find one man working inside preparing one burger at a time. He does what he is told and nothing else. What the meat is or the bread used doesn't concern him much. Although the slogan of this place says burgers and hotdogs, this place only has burgers, a new fish burger and a tawouk sandwich.
The burgers look fresh and loaded - I ordered three of them to have a complete idea of their offerings. The bacon, the cheeseburger and the mushroom n Swiss.
The first impression:
- Photos of the burgers look good. The bun seems like one from Prunelle or Delifrance... until I saw the Sofi de France logo that confirms it.
- The place looks fresh, nice aromas enchant the street.
- Prices are low and reasonable, the least expensive being LBP6,000 and the most expensive being LBP9,500.
My order:
- The Cheese Burger: with no onions added, the cheese burger includes a beef patty, melted cheddar cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomato mayo, ketchup and mustard.
- The Mushroom n Swiss: a beef patty, melted Swiss cheese, iceberg lettuce, mayo and barbecue sauce with fresh mushrooms.
- Barbecue Bacon: a beef patty, melted cheddar cheese, crispy pork bacon, iceberg lettuce, tomato, mayo and BBQ sauce.
- French fries.
Overwhelmed and working alone, the man preparing the burgers was trying to call the owner, communicate with the delivery man and answer all the customers' demands, until the owner came to help. I waited calmly for my burgers to be served.
I grabbed my two paper bags and went back to the car to taste them...
- The burgers have this homey feel to them, enjoyably tender and juicy, a firm patty, fresh vegetables and no complication. The burger you deserve to enjoy for the LBP6,000 paid, a good bun from DeliFrance, good meat from Dekerco, fresh vegetables, non-sweet ketchup, good mustard...
- I liked it, a burger perfectly cooked for the college crowd next door.
I don't want to compare them with any other, but trust me this burger which costs LBP6,000 is better than the one sold around town for LBP19,000 and more importantly using the same ingredients.
It's been a year since they first opened and I’m happy to have visited Brgrz&Fries.
I'm not saying it's the best burger I've ever have had - the bun should lighter on the inside and could be fluffier if toasted a little bit with a spread of butter, the meat could be juicier if cooked less and not pressed on the grill… Presentation is key, the burgers are unfortunately not instagramable… but for what you pay, it's an enjoyable experience.
Now for the fries... They're excellent! Crunchy and well salted yellow fries - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Imported fries and it clearly shows.
