The Gemmayze district, full of narrow streets and graceful historic buildings from the French era, is a fitting backdrop for this new concept store. Also well-known for its trendy bars and restaurants. Gemmayze is also home to an unusual mix of artisan stores and luxury boutiques. And Ginette fits right in.
Ginette consists of three distinct areas: an eatery, a fashion boutique, and an art gallery. On the terrace and ground floor is the eatery, which serves a range of healthy salads, open- face sandwiches and of course a wide selection of desserts (confectioned by Oslo, the famous local patisserie.) Ginette has become popular for Brunch goers... The menu is rich with a variety of brunch munchies including egg dishes and sandwiches, with waffles and Ginette’s version of Eggs Benedict coming in as the most popular items. Salads are freshly made with a variety that include the popular lentil salad that's extremely tasty.
The best parts of this exclusive eatery is their desserts, try their red velvet cake or their carrot. Equally popular, pass by an afternoon for a latte and a piece of cake heaven. While eating you are surrounded with a unique fashion retail outlet, hoping to provide a space for artists and designers from differing fields to encounter one another, as well as the clientele. This way, Ginette’s atmosphere will be one of ongoing mutual discovery. Ginette was designed by Raed Abillama Architects. Part of the concept was the creation of a “clean-slate” area, where the available space and furniture are readily adaptable to the specifications of each designer or artist. Abillama, a veteran of other retail design projects, has recently worked on restoring Joseph stores in London and Paris, so it is little surprise that the idea behind Ginette has been realized so effectively.
On the mezzanine area is Ginette Art Gallery, which works in collaboration with various local and international artists. On the ground floor is the store area. This features an endless roll of high-street labels, along with younger street-style designers. According to its publicity, Ginette aims to provide a continuously evolving shopping experience focused on the discovery of unique and distinctive products – and producers. The selection offered covers fashion, jewelry, watches, cosmetics, as well as exceptional objects such as limited-edition cameras. And, for lovers of literature, there is even an assortment of books.
Ginette itself admits that it is all about dynamism. Each month new designers are introduced. But the main purpose of Ginette is, above all, “to offer an eating and shopping experience that is pleasant, enjoyable, fun, dynamic and unique.” With their focal point being to spark the experiential side of the customer’s presence in-store (you can, after all, feed your taste buds, dress your body and enhance your mind all at once), it looks like Ginette is likely to be one of Gemmayze’s latest success.
