You’ll feel transported from the minute you walk in, welcomed by the salmon and caviar bar action, the big communal table, the two large paintings and the bakery located on the upper level. Light blue is the color, Tiffany’s blue, white marble tables, light brown leather sofas and old brick walls. Rustic yet fresh and colorful, I knew that today’s experience was going to be fun!
Sadelle's is a New York bakery and restaurant located in the heart of Soho. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 08:30 until 08:30. For breakfast and lunch, Sadelle's features quintessential appetizing selections like sliced-to-order salmon and sturgeon, chopped salads, and other New York classics.
A full set of cutlery, a tablecloth, light blue coffee mugs and long water glasses, Le Creuset pepper mills... details make all the difference at Sadelle’s. Enjoying soft music playing in the background, I browsed the menu. The same menu is served all day, a varied menu of several egg and breakfast choices, salmon and caviar, one burger and one cheese sandwich. Bagels and salads with three items for supper. Unexpectedly simple, the food menu is prepared all day long so why not have a waiter at 9am if you’re coming from a long trip over the Atlantic?
The thing that really caught my attention is the big white painting with only colored stripes as its border; a daring focal point!
Every night, Sadelle's transforms from a bakery into a fantastical brasserie that is illuminated solely by candlelight. Sadelle's dinner menu emphasizes fish preparations, along with other classic dishes and freshly baked bread. The restaurant also specializes in a traditional Russian caviar and vodka service.
The bakery highlights one of New York's greatest food traditions — the bagel. The hand-rolled bagels, pastries and breads are made fresh on-site throughout the day in a glass-enclosed bakery, located in the center of the dining room.
The Food:
- The cheese sandwich, a premiere for me, is no more complicated than a bagel, cut in half, turned inside out and stuffed with two kinds of cheese. It’s so finger licking yummy! One of the best bagels I’ve had. It's adequately chewy and light at the same time. Small in size, it has a certain finesse to it. The cheese is chosen carefully offering a balanced experience. Acidic and sweet, oily and enjoyable.
- The Eggs Benedict! OMG! How many have you enjoyed with an English muffin that’s so fluffy and airy that it dissolves under the palate? How many times have you enjoyed a lemony and intense hollandaise that’s as creamy as it should be? How many times have the eggs been poached just right and the salmon warm at the same temperature of the eggs and hollandaise? Let me tell you that this doesn’t happen often! I loved it so much and confirm it as one of New York’s best!
Is this real? Simply written as “Sticky Bun” on the menu is a phenomenal piece of cake! Half cinnamon roll, half croissant, half bagel, half apple strudel, this is one hell of a pastry creation! They're sticky indeed but not as sticky as the waiter described them, they are sweet but not as sweet as I imagined, embraced with a thin layer of chewy caramel, hundreds of puff pastry layers roll around each other hand in hand. It’s airy and light while being intense and strong at the same time! A sprinkle of sea salt on top gives it the gourmet touch of a master chef. Bravo, bravo, bravo!
And then the pancakes, great pancakes, three of them stuffed with blueberries and served with maple syrup on the side. They’re great!
One thing I’d change: the waiters' clothes are not up to the restaurant’s standard. Dirty shoes, doctors uniforms that are bigger in size that they should be, some wearing sneakers, others blue jeans. This part needs fixing.
Good service, great vibes, tasty food, amazing ambiance, beautiful decor... I love it here!
