Street Food Thursday: Berlin's Street Food Market

The best way to get to know a place is through its food – a saying that holds true around the world. When traveling, some of the most interesting meals you can find are those offered for immediate consumption at small stands: street food. Once a week, you can get a taste of what Berlin has to offer besides Currywurst and Döner at Street Food Thursday, from 5 - 10 pm. It’s a platform for all those who don’t have their own restaurant, or the seed money to start one, but a double dose of creativity when it comes to living their passion: cooking!

The appeal, of course, is in the opportunity to sample lots of little snacks from all over the globe. Affordable for everyone – a democratic restaurant. As Ursula Heinzelmann writes in the FAS, “Street food is to the common restaurant what food blogs are to traditional publishing: entry is hurdle-free, participation is high, and it’s utterly up-to-date.” For us, Street Food Thursday is edible proof that Berlin is a center of culinary creativity, a melting pot whose diversity is visible in its multitude of authentic food cultures. What exactly does that mean? British pies, Thai tapioca dumplings, Mexican tacos, Allgäuer Kässpatzen, Peruvian ceviche, Nigerian fufu, American barbeque, Korean buns…the list goes on and there’s something new every Thursday!
