Hello Sunday! When you wake up not knowing where to go and what to eat, head down to Le Gray in Beirut. I heard about their Sunday brunch but was not expecting it to be so generous and diversified! Brunch at Le Gray proposes a wide selection of food choices, a kids area, an a-la-carte menu, and live cooking stations. With a view of downtown Beirut on a beautiful sunny Sunday, I had a pleasant lunch with the family.

The Sunday buffet at Le Gray has everything one might ask for. Endless choices of food from the four corners of the globe, hot preparations, nachos, seafood, sushi, rice and pasta alongside several platters of cold cuts and cheeses. A mouthwatering dessert awaits.

My wife handled the serving; plates started landing on the table one after the other. I wished to try everything!

  • Sushi is excellent! Finding good sushi at a hotel is a rare thing but not at Le Gray. Indigo brings sushi from the Gordon’s Cafe down below, and they rock!
  • Excellent cold cuts and cheeses quality.
  • Don’t miss the Lebanese bites, Kebbeh, sambousik and rolls.
  • Fill your plate from the salad bar where Lebanese and international choices await.
  • Tender meat, tasty sauces, and nicely baked gratin.

Don’t miss the special orders! Gourmet mini portions of which two Angus beef burgers, eggs Benedict and tuna ceviche. The eggs Benedict are better than the ones I have at breakfast with lemony and acidic hollandaise. Fresh and zesty ceviche of diced tuna cubes mixed with ripe avocados. Orange quarters and crunchy croutons. The burgers are made of thick juicy Angus beef inside a tender bun butter toasted to perfection.

More was yet to come: I ordered penne Pomodoro cooked al dente, croque-bun roll with hand and cheese, endives and pear salad with Roquefort and honey mustard dressing. Very aldente the way I like them mixed in a tomato sauce prepared without garlic. A buttery puff pastry croque monsieur made with pure butter and stuffed with melted cheese and premium ham. A refreshing and crisp salad.

Good food but I can’t say the same about their desserts; everything needs flavor, texture, and life. To tell you the truth, the first reaction I had is “dramatic”. Bites lack intensity and body. Red Velvet is unpleasantly lemony. Halawat el Jeben can’t even be called by this name. Chocolate cake is gooey like a biscuit... the muffin is beyond words... It’s better that I stop writing about desserts.

My kids had the best time of their life, I enjoyed my food and will consider coming here again.
