The leader of Dubai has approved spending $32 billion to expand the city’s second airport in the hopes it will become the world’s biggest. Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central is set to eventually serve 200 million passengers a year, outdoing Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
That hub is the busiest, serving 94.4 million passengers last year. Once completed in an estimated six to eight years, the expansion will allow for five parallel runways to be used simultaneously and for 100 double-decker Airbus A380 jets to land at any time.
